Your Google Business Profile often decides whether a nearby customer calls you or a rival. This checklist covers the things that matter most. Work through it once, then once a quarter.
Get the basics exactly right
- Claim and verify the profile. If you have not, nothing else matters.
- Use your real business name. Do not add keywords. Google can suspend profiles that do.
- Match your address and phone to your website, character for character.
- Choose the most accurate primary category. Add secondary ones that are true.
- Set real opening hours, and update them for holidays.
Show the business
- Add real photos: the front, the inside, the team at work, the work itself. Replace old ones.
- Describe your services in plain words, with the neighborhoods you serve.
- List your services, and prices where it makes sense.
Earn trust
- Ask for reviews after each job, with a link, and reply to every review, good or bad.
- Never buy or fake reviews. Google removes them, and may penalize the profile.
Stay active
- Post an update, offer or photo every week or two.
- Answer questions in the Q&A before a stranger does it for you.
Then check your numbers
Watch calls, direction requests and website clicks in your profile’s performance view. Those are the numbers that matter, not impressions.
